Memories

I know I missed posting here a day or so so I will correct that this weekend but in the meantime, here is today's post!

I know this is not part of my "work series" (Will get back to that soon) but today's special feature of the day was that I was able to get a copy of my 9th grade year-from 20 years ago!! I knew it was a long shot but I had emailed a teacher at my old school and he was able to get me a copy! I was thrilled and while I was there I got to visit with my favorite teacher growing up-my 1st grade teacher!

Work Series

So I thought it would be fun to take a series of photos from work this week since I have a hard time during the week getting home after dark and all to take pictures of anything new and exciting. So this week I will post some different random photos from work. Here is today's installment-and who knows what you might learn about me from these photos!

Good Morning and Good Night!

This is the view outside the window of my upstairs bathroom. At the time I decided to take the photo the sun was coming in just right and reflecting off the white snow to make it super bright! Technically I took this on Jan 29 but I am using it for Jan 30

And for today's photo...

so when we came home tonight I noticed some animal visitors had been in our yard that were not there before! It was hard to get a good photo from the door but I did what I could. I need to try and get more creative with my photos during the week....lol

Today's pics

So this morning I went to my IL's house to let their dog out and give him some food. I was sitting on the couch after letting him out in the morning and he came up to say hi:)

Snow-who knew??

Well since we had snow again-that is the theme of the day! But instead of one of my fave shots of the yard all covered in white I choose a close up I took this morning of a branch on a tree.

And I just wanted to make mention that today would have been one of my grandfather's 88th birthday. He passed away this past may but he is always remembered and with us and in our hearts today and everyday.

more snow....

yes, another snow photo but today was chock full of weddings, snow and birthdays so the snow won out. I thought this was a funny photo where the snow was covering the lion (I cleared it from his eyes LOL). I can pretty much bet there will be more snow pics tomorrow....we are getting a LOT right now!!!

Photo of the DAY

So I will be honest-I didn't take this photo today. I didn't get a chance to take a shot of anything I was really feeling inspiring however as I was going through files on my laptop in a rush to back it up (odd sounds starting to come from my little friend here) I came across this "page" I made for my book from a trip to DC a few years ago. There are some others I like better than this one but being today is the State of the Union address by President Obama I thought it was an appropriate choice to represent today for me.

Posing for a picture

I know I just did a photo of the plecko's last week and I am going to TRY not to over run my photos with frogs and fish (although they ARE our pets and its just like people who take lots of pics of their dogs or cats-but cuter LOL) But these two pleckos are so much more active than the old ones and first he was chilling on a leave by the tree but had moved by the time I got my camera (even though I told him not to!) but then he came out through the hut and sat there for a second after I had already tried getting his picture on the side of it so I think he chose his pose:) And I liked it.

Haircut

So today I went to a new place near where I am living now and got my hair cut and such. I had a gift certificate to try this place out and I was very happy with it. Nice place, nice atomosphere and nice hair dresser. Ultimately I got a lot more than what is in this photo taken off but I thought it was a nice picture with the sun shining in through the big windows on it before I left.

Score!

So I went out for some "quick" errands. 4 hours later I got home but along the way I got a few deals and the most exciting....a blue ray copy of the movie "Tenure". Why do you ask is this exciting?? Because it features Ben's cousin Joshua Ryan as one of the students in the class!!! I needed it for my collection and now I got it! Best of all-got it free because I bought some other DVDs and signed up for a trial of the Blockbuster mail order program (local store closing). So I officially have his movie now:)

Snow...again!

Today it snowed again:) However I leave for work too early to get good shots of the snow at home but today when I pulled into work and parked my car, I looked up and saw this sight and thought it was very pretty. And so I choose it as my photo of the day.

Clean tank!

So today I came home and looked at the fish tank and thought Ben had gone ahead and cleaned it. But apparently I was wrong...those new plecko's we got last weekend have been busy busy!! Up until today the front of the tank had algea all over the inside of it. We bought this thing to clean it off on the weekend but it is the food for the plecko's so we were giving them a chance to eat and boy did they eat!! The tank looks crystal clear!!!

A bonus photo of one of the busy workers!

Salt and Pepper Shaker

So today's picture is of an old set of salt and pepper shakers my grandmother gave to me recently. When she told me she had them, I remembered them from my childhood right away and I was actually a little surprised she still had them because she is typically a women who doesn't save things she isn't using. But she told me she had them stored in the pantry and cleaned them up and filled them for me. It reminded me of how we do that to not only things but people who are important to use. Sometimes they are not "sitting on the table" but they are still in our home and our hearts through photos or mementos and reaching out to them every now and again reminds us of why we still keep them close to us in one way or another.

Life is short and sometimes the everyday bustle we forget the things that mean the most. Cherish the moments, not just the big ones like a new house or a marriage but also the small ones, like the salt and pepper shakers.

Not quite Grandma's chicken

So tonight in an effort to speed up the process of cooking dinner I ventured into the world of frying my chicken pieces without adult supervision:( This of course resulted in LOTS of smoke and "blackened" chicken for dinner instead of just breaded chicken as originally planned. I should have known better...there is a reason I BAKE everything and that reason is because me and the frying pan, well we don't have the best of relationships. We work on it occassionally but we were not in sync tonight. The good news...I know my new fire alarms work:)

And for the record the chicken was still tasty...just had a little "smokey" taste:)

3 in 1 catch up post

So I didn't get online to post photos for the last 3 nights so I am doing a 3 in 1 post-to play catch up this morning.

Jan 13 2011-Today's photo is late to upload but was taken on the 13th. Its a little "Cake" we put together for my nieces birthday since she didn't get to blow out any real candles on her actual birthday the day before.

New Niece is a photo of my first visit with my new niece on Friday Jan 14. A cutie already:)

Photo for Saturday Jan 15: Loud Falling Ice- So today I had the crap scared out of me a few times when I heard what turned out to be icicles falling off the house. The first time I thought it was the dryer falling through the floor or something and then this time I had realized what it was so I went outside to look and found the shattered ice not far from my car! As a bonus I have a few photos of the ice.

Snow Day! Jan 12 2011

Snow! Here is a shot of my house from the street at 4:30 am this morning before I got started shoveling the sidewalk and driveway before the sun came up. "I pick things up. I put things down."-Today, that was snow LOL I was all done around 6 am or so and while it was quite early, it was definately easier and better to just get it over with before the rest of the world was awake. It was also very peaceful-and I wasn't the only one. My neighbor was out doing his as well!

Here are a few more before and after shots of my work:)

Before!

After!

I have to admit that it was definately easier to do before it started to melt and re-freeze and get heavier that it was. We were lucky it was somewhat light and fluffy as well but snow is heavy even when its "fluffy".

What a Mess! 1-11-11

Well, today was a messy day! And there is snow coming which I am sure will just add to all the mess but at least it will look deceptively pretty if we get enough snow (hopefully I will have a photo of THAT tomorrow:)

So today my "photo of the day" is the 110 year old original sewer pipes that were removed from my yard today. Apparently they haven't worked in YEARS anyway. It was fascinating to watch but it was also an incredible mess. The big casualties of the day would be the big azeala bush we had and the front hedgerow. We had talked about updating the hedges to a different kind anyway...so come spring you should see some photos of something new.

Because of the location of the pipe and the work they needed to do they basically tore up 95% of the landscaping on the side and front of the house (of course the one bush that is still in front is this ugly one that we would be happy to lose anyway and will be gone in the spring LOL. I kept watching hoping the guy would move his backhoe thing over just a little bit to nip it but he never did...)

Anyway, here are the pipes:

For fun, here are some highlights from the day:

Let's hope the snow covers it a little:)

Tree Gone!

We had to have a tree cut down from in front of our property today so that some additional plumbing work could be done. It was sad because it was a beautiful tree but one that was enjoying and thriving off of our sewer/water lines a little too much-which is why it has to go.

I added a some extra photos here of the tree before and the stump after:)

Here is a couple photos of the tree in more flush days.

Go Eagles~Jan 9 2011

So normally I like to use the same photo for here and my 365project but I feel with my blog I have a little more freedom to do as I please where withthe project I am trying to limit to short and sweet photo of the day.

My photo for here is more of a "Creation" for the day-it is a photo I took yesterday I believe but I "dressed up" for game day.

Here is my frogs all ready for the big game and hoping for an Eagles Playoff Win!!!

A Visit in the Snow

This photo was taken today when I went out to the cemetary where both my grandparents and great grandparents are buried. In this picture you can not see it easily but if you look on the far left you will see a wreath by a grave and on the far right you see one as well. The one on the left is by my great grandparents. The one on the right is my grandparents. I love how lucky we were to have them so close to each other that they fall under the shadows of the same tree.

As a bonus because I just thought they looked pretty in the snow and its not a common photo, here are some close ups of those graves. I know it may seem odd to take this kind of photo to some people but to me, its just another way of preserving history. Having found photos my grandmother took of different graves has given me information I didn't always have when doing family history research. Also, to me, its just another way to show that while they may be gone, they are not forgotten.
